Tyler Perry, A New Baby and tight lips?

This has been an interesting, productive and rewarding week for me. My hubby got the job! It's official! Let's just say his new boss is a contraversial figure in radio. Humm.
I am working on my new baby, THE ULTIMATE LATINA THEATER FESTIVAL and here is a draft of the logo for the event. I love it! Thanks to the marvelous KERVIN. I am having a blast with planning this one. I'm going back to having fun people! BTW, I'm looking for a publicist asap. There's an entire job posting on my myspace page. www.myspace.com/latinoflavoredproductions
This week, the weirdest thing happened to me. Shirley (my assistant) called me to tell me we got an email and a phone call from Tyler Perry's people. They wanted to buy anything we had. DVD's, Books, etc. They wanted to know everything that we did. I thought, wow how cool is that? Then I started dreaming. I thought it would be super cool if YO SOY LATINA! could go on a national tour as a
TYLER PERRY PRODUCTION. Nice. Or better yet, a film. Whatever the outcome, it's really nice to know the industry is taking notice.
I received an email from a print publication in NYC this week interested in doing a story on me and LFP Inc. So I give them background, blah, blah, blah. Then I tell them that we have successfully reached the million dollar mark. Isn't that great? He says, I don't want to focus on that really. And he said it in a way to make me feel I had said something I shouldn't have. This is what I don't understand about my peeps. When an all Latina company makes a million dollars producing empowering plays about the Latino experience, why should I keep my mouth shut! For what? It's exciting. It means we're doing something right. When Forbes puts out their list of top 25, is anyone saying, "Oh they shouldn't do that." I can't believe in 2007 some of us are still feeling like we need to keep quiet and blend in. Don't speak out. Don't bring attention to ourselves. Why? For fear they'll think we're Latino? News flash: WE ARE! So, I decided not to do the interview.

Not the ONE we have on ABC. It's almost as if we are only allowed one at a time. Think about how many cable stations there are. Hundreds. Where are our films? Haven't seen much? But when Jennifer Lopez does her thing, we all have something to say about it. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, this woman does more than anyone else (besides Salma) to keep us out there. She could have taken that Hector Lavoe money and done something else with it. However, she chose to keep true to her peeps. I don't know. Maybe it's me but something weird is going on in Latinowood. And it's nothing. Which lead me back to this: When something exciting does happen, why shouldn't we share it?

Keep speaking out. Congratulations!
You don’t know me from Adam, but I really would like to know what J-Lo is doing to keep true to her peeps. Who are her peeps? Surely it’s not the Latinos from East Harlem or the boriquas from Brooklyn.
At any rate, I’m just a Puerto Rican kid from El Barrio and I love to start trouble. Plus, I have a love-hate relationship with J-Lo. As an aspiring screenwriting, I love her butt and hate her success.
So on that note, congratulations to you and your hubby. As for me, I’ll continue to hate the world and keep checking my emails. :-)
keep your gaurd up with Tyler Perry......why does he want everything from you...is he writing a latino story and doing research. La Eve!
YO DO YOU GIRL
CONGRATS AND KEEP US INFORMED.
Congratulations to you and your husband! I'm sorry that the interview did not work out, it seems that our people are the first ones to shoot us in the foot. But I am proud of the way that you turned down the interview even though it would have brought you much more publicity. You HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO BE PROUD of your million dollar mark! That is a great accomplishment especially one for an independent Latina WOMAN! Maybe it was that fact that the interviewer couldn't deal with? HMMM????
Keep doing what you are doing for you provide much inspiration and motivation to the rest of us!
Thanks guys for the love and support! And for the kid from El Barrio who has a love/hate relationship with Ms. Lopez and likes to start trouble. There was a time I felt like you. Didn't get it. Couldn't understand it. And wished she was more than a brand that was trying to take over the world (in the way that Beyonce is doing right now). We can't hate. Because if you're a writer, trying to make it, and you're hating on someone, you've just closed the door on some serious possibilities. You've limited your chances of success. I love Jlo! She's got thick skin, she's a great business woman, she doesn't deny her heritage, and she has in many ways opened the door for other Latinas. So, let's focus on the good. Not what you wish she can do. In the meantime, figure out a way to do what she isn't. Make a change dude. With action. In other words, stop complaining and do something about it!
Congratulations to you and your husband!
With regards to the comments about JLo, I was at one time happy that a Latina had made a mark. Then I started to see what that mark was... her butt. And it soon became the reason used by others, in and out of our community, to measures other latinas by.
So when FREESTYLE WRITER says that we shouldn't hate, I would like to agree, but I don't see what there is to like.
As for her embracing her "Latina" heritage, I view that as a matter of opinion. I am not the most informed person on her activities (I have a life), but I don't see her doing much in the Bronx for the impoverished, or for the kids in latin communities to have a proper place to go for a "positive latin experience".
She should have used the money she invested in the "Lavoe" movie to give a positive image to someone, because she sure didn't do it for one of the icons in salsa music. She could have centered more on the positive.
We live in a society that centers on the negative, especially within the minority communities; so why should we do the same. We see it, and should not turn a blind eye to it, but lets do something bout it, not exploit it. And less within our own community, which is already under attack from so many other.
Make another million!!!
